For Change

Jacob Taken, LPC

Licensed Professional Counselor

Jacob Taken earned his Bachelor of Music Therapy from Drury University in 2019 and his Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Capella University in 2024. Before pursuing a career in counseling, Jacob served as a Music Therapist within the juvenile

prison system and a case manager with family services, additionally gaining diverse experience with a variety of clients during his undergraduate studies. For the past two years, he has held the position of Office Manager at Family Psychological Services, where he has contributed significantly to the foundational processes that support the therapeutic journey of clients. This experience has provided him with a comprehensive understanding of the overall therapeutic process.

Jacob believes that individuals are shaped by both their inherent characteristics and their developmental experiences, and he focuses on addressing these factors to create an environment conducive to lasting healing. He facilitates the therapeutic process by acknowledging client challenges and helping them find motivation for change in their daily lives. He emphasizes that the capacity for change is essential for progress toward well-being.

While Jacob incorporates a foundational approach in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, he predominantly employs an eclectic model, acknowledging that therapy is not a one-size-fits-all solution. He also employs techniques from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Internal Family Systems, and Solution Focused Therapy. He specializes in trauma-focused work, particularly concerning childhood and sexual trauma. His areas of expertise also include grief and loss, depression, sexual issues, ADHD, and couples therapy.

Currently, Jacob is pursuing additional training in Somatic Therapy, which he plans to integrate into his sessions to better address trauma and other stress-related challenges faced by clients.

From Dr. Wes: As an LPC Jacob is part of our training program. but don't let that fool you. I've worked with Jacob now for two years, and he is one of the two or three best new therapists I've ever met. I recommend him without reservation for a wide array of cases. Envisioning positive change...

“Therapy is a personal journey of growth and transformation. For some, it feels like a gentle flow, while for others, it can be a daunting challenge. No matter where you find yourself, my role is to meet you where you are and collaborate on the path you wish to take. The most challenging step is recognizing the desire for change, an awakening to the need for transformation. You’ve already taken that courageous step by embarking on your mental health journey.”
