Relational and Sex Therapy

Multimodal Treatment for Relational Difficulties

Family Psychological Services helps individuals and couples improve relationships, strengthen communication, and address concerns related to intimacy and sexual well-being. Relationship therapy focuses on patterns that create conflict, distance, resentment, or disconnection, helping clients rebuild trust, clarify needs, manage conflict, and develop healthier ways of relating, using evidenced based treatments.

Sex therapy offers a respectful, nonjudgmental space to discuss concerns such as differences in desire, sexual pain, performance anxiety, changes in sexual functioning, low libido, intimacy after trauma, sexual shame, body image, identity, orientation, or relationship structure. Our goal is to help clients understand their experiences, communicate more openly, and make choices that align with their values.

We see relationship and sex therapy as part of overall emotional health, often considering attachment, family history, stress, anxiety, depression, and trauma. Through individual, couples, or family-focused sessions, Family Psychological Services helps clients reduce shame, improve connection, and build more fulfilling relationships.

A Full Range of Treatment Modalities

Couples Psychotherapy

Several of our staff have extensive training in couples therapy including the Gottman Method. Dr. Wes has health certificates in sex therapy and sex education from the University of Michigan and consults extensively with staff. We see couples of all genders and orientations to build effective problem solving across all aspects of relational life.

Sex-Informed Therapy

Late teens and young adults benefit greatly from forming healthy relationships and sexual engagements, as they move out into independent living. Our staff offer sex-positive, affirming care for all genders, orientations, and coupling styles to offer a safe harbor for teens to process the complex world of human sexuality.

Family Therapy

Working with families of children and teens, we emphasize consent-based collaboration, and daily practices that strengthen communication, build independence, support consistent routines, and enhance family engagement to help parents feel more prepared, connected, and successful

Divorce Recovery

Our staff can help couples weigh the pros and cons of continuing a marriage. If divorce is the right option, we can help parents reach optimal parenting plans, best-practices coparenting consultation, benevolent disengagement, and preparation for the new normal of divorce. For adults, we can also help with divorce recovery and reentry into the dating pool.
